Ellaville’s newly elected officials sworn into office
The newly elected Mayor and City Council members were sworn into office on Jan. 8.
Schley County Probate Judge Mitzi Way swore the newly elected mayor, Leah Ellis Clark, into office.
The two City Council members ran unopposed and were sworn into office as well. From District 1 is Charles (Chuck) Sherwood and from District 3, Jason Hock.
After the swearing in the new mayor called the meeting to order.

Historical society still taking applications
The Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society has application forms available for the Honor and Memorial Wall in the renovated Schley County Courthouse. This special wall is in honor or memory of anyone that you would like to have placed on the large plaques in the hall.
We have special forms for this wall. You may ask anyone that’s in the Historical Office, Sharon Watson at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home or the Ellaville Floral Shop. Each plaque is $35, and all proceeds go to preserve the history of Ellaville and Schley County.

Ellaville resident receives scholarship
Ginger Orton, Ellaville resident, has received a scholarship from Synovus-First Community Bank and ABAC.
Ginger, an agriculture communication major, has received a ABAC Foundation Scholarship for this fall semester for her to continue her education at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural  College in Tifton.
Synovus-First Community Bank of Tifton helped to make it possible by sponsoring “An Evening for ABAC.”
Ginger is very thankful for the assistance, and said that being an ABAC Scholarship recipient will encourage her to pursue excellence in her education.
She said, “Knowing there is a team invested in myself and other ABAC students’ education inspires me to be involved, make good grades, and make the community proud as a ABAC student.”
Ginger added that it’s incredibly stress relieving to help ease the financial obligation of a college education, allowing her to focus on her academics and campus involvement because of the donor’s support.
Ginger said she can graduate on time and pursue graduate school.
Synovus-First Community Bank of Tifton is a Platinum-level sponsor for “An Evening for ABAC” scholarship  fundraising event on March 2.
