Raiders and Lady Raiders split with Valwood
AMERICUS – Southland Academy had mixed results last Friday night as the Lady Raiders (15-3, 3-0) defeated Valwood 61-31, but the boys (14-3, 2-1) lost their first region game to the Valiants 38-31.
In the Lady Raiders’ game, two players scored in double-figures. Kathleen Kinslow led the team with 14 points and three assists, while Sydney Payne scored 13 points and dished out 2 assists.
Calyn Fort and Macy Williams each scored eight points. Fort had four assists on the night, while Williams tallied four rebounds and blocked two shots. Cassie Bass also had seven points for the Lady Raiders in the win over the Valiants. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Raiders was Holly McCain with five points and six rebounds, Sydney Payne with four points and Haleigh Warren scored a basket for Southland. Though she didn’t score, Savanna Banks hit the glass hard, grabbing seven rebounds and blocking two shots.
The boys, however, struggled against Valwood, losing 38-31. Saige Batten led the Raiders with 19 points.
