AMERICUS – Fifteen-year-old swimmer Antony DeMott of Americus is the current state champion in the Boys 13-14 50-Meter Freestyle event. DeMott was one of 28 boys selected from the Southern Zone to participate in the Southern Zone Select Camp. The Southern Zone is comprised of 11 southern states, including Texas.

DeMott won gold at the Georgia 14 and Under Long Course Championships held this past Summer. DeMott won gold in the 50-Meter Freestyle event with a time of 24.73. He also won silver medals in both the 100-Meter Butterfly (59.80) and the 100-Meter Freestyle (53.84). These performances earned DeMott his place at the Southern Zone Select Camp.

It is a very prestigious camp. USA Swimming identifies swimmers from four zones around the country: Central, Easter, Southern and Western. These swimmers are considered to have the potential to compete for a future spot on the US National or Olympic teams. Once they have identified the emerging athletes from each zone, USA Swimming offers a unique motivational and educational experience. This is viewed as an integral step for athletes moving from the local zone level to the national scene. The selections are based on the performances of the previous season.

Spring registration begins now!
