Kinslow leads Lady Raiders to win over Deerfield-Windsor

AMERICUS – Kathleen Kinslow scored 15 points to lead the Southland Lady Raiders to a 58-45 win over Deerfield-Windsor Friday night, February 2, at Southland Academy.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with Southland leading 8-6 at the end of the quarter. Continuing to press their advantage, Southland Academy extended their lead by five points, ending the first half with a 26-21 lead. The Lady Raiders dominated on defense in the third quarter. They allowed only two field goals in the third quarter. Cassi Bass hit two three-pointers in the third quarter to help the Lady Raiders extend their lead. Sydney Payne shot 5-of-7 from the field (71 percent) to help Southland move ahead by 14 in the third quarter at 39-25. Three of Payne’s baskets came in the first quarter.
The Lady Knights were not able to cut into Southland’s lead, and the Lady Raiders went on to win 58-45. They are still undefeated in region play at 6-0 and are still atop the region standings.
They have an overall record of 18-3. “We played really well tonight”, Southland Head Coach Ty Kinslow said. “Everyone was making the critical shots. We were good on the post and outside. Consistency is what won us the game.”
The Lady Raiders will travel to Valdosta on Tuesday, February 6, to take on Valwood. Tip-off for that game will be at 6:30 p.m.
