ELLAVILLE — A Schley County grand jury indicted Macon County Sheriff Charles Cannon Jr. on Monday for alleged sexual battery.
The charge stems from an incident in November in Ellaville, in which a woman accused the sheriff of inappropriately touching her. Ellaville Police were called to Central Automotive in Ellaville to a report of a man “grabbing a female by the buttock.”
The grand jury has charged Cannon with misdemeanor sexual battery.
Cannon was elected in November 2016, to replace his father, Charles Cannon Sr., who ha¬¬d held the office for decades.
The case is being handled by Brad Rigby, Cordele Circuit District Attorney, as an outside prosecutor, as Macon County is part of the Southwestern Judicial Circuit.
