Annetta G. Snead: Feb. 21, 2018

AMERICUS — Mrs. Annetta “Anne” G. Snead, age 89, of Americus passed away early Wednesday morning,  Feb.  21, 2018, at Perfect Care. Funeral services will be held at noon, Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at the rostrum at Andersonville National Cemetery. The Rev. Hugh DeLoach will officiate.

Mrs. Snead was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Stafford Worthington Graydon and the late Annetta Moore Graydon. She was a member of Southwest Christian Church, formerly of East Point, Ga., and attended Central Baptist Church in Americus.

 

Anne was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted matriarch to a family who loved her very much.  She was also a musician, a music teacher, and a valued mentor to many young people through her life. She was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the 1950s and was active in many roles through her life, but her primary and most important role was that of mother. Being a mother was what she loved in life the most. She devoted herself to this role with her full being in every respect and committed to the health and success of her children in every possible way. The proudest moments of her life were as mother and grandmother.

 

Survivors include her daughter Melanie Snead Mathis of Americus; her son and daughter-in-law Charles Graydon Snead (Angie) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; five grandchildren Amanda Mathis Shemwell (Foy) of Albany, Ga., Nathan William Mathis of Americus, Ga., Charles Stafford Snead, Joshua Lloyd Snead and Jacob Christopher Snead, all of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two great-grandchildren Mary William Shemwell and Graydon Harrison Shemwell also survive.

 

Mrs. Snead was preceded in death by her husband Charles Budington Snead and her son-in-law Carl William “Willy” Mathis Jr.
