AMERICUS – The Americus-Sumter girls’ soccer team struggled in their match against Carver, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Lady Tigers on Friday, February 23, at Americus-Sumter High School.

Americus-Sumter got off to a promising start as they were able to control the ball in the first half. With 23 minutes remaining in the first half, Chayce Pottinger scored for the Lady Panthers, giving them a 1-0 lead.

However, it would be the only goal of the night for the Lady Panthers. Carver got the equalizer with 10 minutes remaining in the half. Then with 22 minutes left in the game, Carver took the lead and never looked back. From then on, the Lady Tigers dominated the match, scoring three more goals on their way to a 5-1 win over Americus-Sumter. The Lady Panthers had some scoring chances, but were unable to capitalize. In fairness to Americus-Sumter, they were missing key players due to illness or injury.

“We were up against a really tough team that was even tougher because we didn’t have our starters,” ASH Head Coach Joseph Oyeniya said. “We’ll keep improving and get them next time.”

With the loss, the Lady Panthers drop to 1-2.
