ASH Boys and Girls Tennis teams split with Pelham

AMERICUS – The Americus-Sumter girls’ tennis team shutout Pelham 5-0 Wednesday night, February 28, while the boys team lost to the Yellow Jackets 3-2. Both matches took place at Americus-Sumter High School.

For the girls, the ASH number one singles player, Hannah Martinez, defeated Breana Kirby 8-4. Jovan Sykes, the Lady Panthers’ number two player, defeated Logan Redmond 8-4. Kimberly Worthy defeated Ashley Maxwell 8-1, completing the domination of Pelham in the singles competition.

In doubles action, Kirby Perry and Israel Broomfield defeated Pelham’s team of Katie Smith and Kristen Palmer 8-6. The ASH duo of Taylor Garcia and Nallely Lepiz Pelham’s Ja Shauna Harvey and Lauren Harrell by the score of 8-4, thus completing the 5-0 shutout of the Yellow Jackets.

In boys’ action, the ASH boys team competed hard, but lost 3-2. The Panthers number one, Aaron John Nddayezwi, shutout Michael Boyd 8-0. Braxton Cross lost to Greyson Shiver in a hard-fought match 5-8. Xavier White was able to beat Pelham’s Parker Satterwhite 8-5.

However, the Americus-Sumter boys’ doubles teams fought hard, but lost. Keldrick Flemming and Chris Wooden fell to the Yellow Jackets’ duo of Jarvis Atkins and Shyleak Stanley 5-8. The Yellow Jackets won the deciding point when their doubles team of D.J. Johnson and Devantay Richardson defeated the Panthers’ team of Aaron Lewis and Chandler Reddix 5-8.

Both teams will be at home to take on Hawkinsville on Monday, March 5, at 4:30 p.m.
