Americus-Sumter Tennis splits with Hawkinsville

AMERICUS – The Americus-Sumter Ladies Tennis Team fell to Hawkinsville 5-0. Hannah Martinez and Kimberly Worth had close matches, but lost both of them. Martinez fell to Kayleigh Morrison in straight sets 4-6, 3-6, and Worthy lost to Lauren Davis 3-6, 4-6. Jovan Sykes also lost her match, falling to McKenzie Mullis 1-6, 0-6. In doubles action, Israel Broomfield and Kirby Perry of ASH fell to the duo of Nadia Sloan and Caroline Holland 2-6, 3-6.

In the other doubles match, Taylor Garcia and Nallely Lepiz lost to Hawkinsville’s Sarah Beth Barka and Belle Owens 4-6, 0-6. Both the girls and boys matches took place on Monday, March, 5, at Americus-Sumter High School.

For the ASH guys, it was a much better outcome. They defeated Hawkinsville 3-2. The Panthers number one singles player, Aaron John Ndaayezwi, defeated Phuong Pham 1-6, 3-6.

Braxton Cross of ASH defeated Walker Woods 6-1, 6-3. The Panthers number three player, Xavier White, defeated Tucker Johnson 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles action, the ASH duo of Keldrick Flemming and Chris Wooden lost to Nate Black and Evan Stewart 1-6, 4-6. Zack Johnson and Chandler Reddix fought hard in their match, but fell to the team of Des Singletary and Willie Westbrook 4-6, 4-6.

The Americus-Sumter Tennis Teams will hit the courts again on Wednesday, March 7, when they host Columbus in a region match, which will begin at 4:30 p.m.
