Herman West, GOP candidate for Congress, visits Americus

AMERICUS — Herman West, Republican candidate for Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District, visited the Sumter County Republican Party monthly meeting Tuesday at Roman Oven.
West was born in Cuthbert. He served in the military and as a police officer. West is currently a pastor and pursuing higher education.
At the meeting, he shared his ideas on education, healthcare, and economic opportunity in South Georgia. West believes that educational leaders and parents must ensure that every school is held to a standard in teaching students. He states that healthcare should be patient-centered and based on a free competitive market to allow for competition and drive down healthcare costs.
West sees that small business is the main avenue for job creation and a way to improve the job market in Georgia.
