McCorkles celebrate 60th wedding anniversary
Billy and Elene McCorkle celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, March 18 at Ellaville United Methodist Church with family members and close friends.
This special event was held after church from noon until 2 p.m. with a lovely catered luncheon served.
The serving tables were covered white linen table cloths and gracing the serving tables as centerpieces were silver candelabra with five white candles as well a lovely floral arrangement on either end of the tables.
The guest tables were covered with white, round linen table cloths and the center pieces consisted of a blue linen mat with white lace dollies and white candles. Anniversary glitter was sprinkled on each guest table.
The meal included roast beef and gravy, glazed ham, roast turkey, mashed potatoes, broccoli, rice, homemade pimento cheese sandwiches, turkey salad, croissants, a rainbow of delicious congealed salads, fresh fruit, pineapple sandwiches and tea.
A lovely three-tiered butter cream frosted pound cake was along with punch. The cake was made by Elaine Phillips.
All floral arrangements and decorations were made by Bobbie Snider using hydrangeas, bi-color and and white roses, pink carnation buds, astrobleme, and chrysanthemums.
Elene McCorkle’s  corsage was also made by Bobbie Snider of  three white roses representing each one of their children. The pink carnations buds complimented the roses in remembrance of the corsage that Elene wore on her wedding day 60 years ago.
Billy McCorkle wore a single white rose boutonniere made by Bobbie Snider.
Billy and Elene’s children had an oil portrait painted for their parents by a Debbie Walker of Preston. The Walkers are family members of the McCorkles. Debbie, Meredith, Rees, and Judy Walker presented Billy and Elene with a lovely portrait of Elene.
There were 75 that attended this special event.

Local women attended Council of Safety  Chapter DAR meeting
On March 13, Vicki Justice and Nancy Young attended the Council of Safety Chapter DAR at Magnolia Manor.
Nancy Hayes, regent, called the meeting to order which was opened with prayer, followed by the Pledge to the American Flag, and the state flag and the American Creed.
The regent introduced the guest speaker, Julie Brooks Prince, who spoke on “Weddings in the White House.” She is a state speaker for the DAR and lives in Lee County.
After the program a delicious meal was served and after lunch a business session was held.
The guest tables were covered with white, round linen table cloths with center pieces of mats shaped like a flower and centered with a yellow Asiatic lily. The lilies as well as tickets to the Dogwood Antique Show and Sale in Leslie were given as door prizes.
There were around 25 members and guests that attended. were Gaye Sheppard, Joan Anderson, Jo Anne Pope and Nancy McMath Young.

Women of Ellaville Methodist Church hosting Easter Bake Sale
The women of Ellaville United Methodist Church are having a Easter Bake Sale on the morning of Saturday, March 31 in front of the Piggly Wiggly.
The Bake Sale begins at 9 a.m. until all the baaked goods are gone. All proceeds go to help with the big 160th anniversary celebration of the church to be held in October.

Schley County 4-H’ers thinking of others
A special project that Schley County 4-H’ers have recently participated in is a Community Service Project for the citizens of Schley County. The 4-H’ers met and decorated cups and placed candy in them for the county commissioners. They delivered the
treats to the Commissioners’ board room in the courthouse.
This group of 4-H students wanted to give a special appreciation to the commissioners for all they do.
The 4- H’ers that delivered the gifts were Meribeth Arthur, Seth Parrott, Lily Harbuck and Anna Trussell.
