AMERICUS — Two yard men were working in tandem, one on a lawn mower and the other with a weed eater, Monday morning on South Lee Street Road (Ga. Highway 377 South) in rural Sumter County near the Lee County line. One would never make it back home alive. His co-worker discovered him at the bottom of the swimming pool about two hours after he had last seen him. The weed eater was also located in the pool.
Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith told the Times-Recorder the drowning victim was Robert Hardy, 57, of Americus. He said no foul play was suspected.
The sheriff said that authorities were notified at 1:48 p.m. and Harvey was taken by EMS to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. No further information was available.
