Police probes continue

AMERICUS — The Americus Police Department continues its investigations into two incidents that occurred earlier this week.
The criminal investigations division (CID) is soliciting the public’s help in identifying a suspect in an assault which occurred at 11:28 a.m. on Wednesday in the Perlis Plaza parking lot on East Forsyth Street.
The suspect is described as a black male in his late 40s to early 50s, approximately 5’09” and medium build and unshaven. Anyone who recognizes this man is asked to call the Americus Police Department’s Anonymous Tip Line at 229- 924-4102 or the CID at 229-924-4550.
Police are also continuing to investigate a shooting which occurred Wednesday night close to the Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) campus.
Police were notified at 9:42 p.m. of a shooting on East Glessner Street. They responded to Georgetown Apartments “in reference to a person being shot.”
Americus Police Chief Mark Scott told the Times-Recorder late Friday afternoon that the CID is following up on several leads in the shooting case.
GSW sent out notification robo-calls immediately following the shooting, advising students and citizens in the area to shelter in place until an all clear was declared.
