MONTGOMERY, AL – The GSW Women’s softball team dropped a pair of games against Auburn Montgomery University on Wednesday, April 4. They dropped the first game 9-1 and got blown out in the second game 16-0.

With the two losses, GSW falls to 16-23 overall on the season.

Auburn Montgomery scored two runs in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to complete the 9-1, run-ruled victory. The four runs the Warhawks scored in the third came on a grand slam home run by Amy Persinger.

Madason Messer started the game for GSW. She pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up nine runs on nine hits. Five of those runs were earned. She struck out three batters, but took the loss to fall to 7-4 on the season.

Elizabeth Wills and Graysen Sanders accounted for the only two hits for GSW off Auburn Montgomery starter Michaelyn Foster. Foster improves to 5-1 after allowing just one unearned run in five innings.

The Lady Canes scored their only run of the game in the fifth when Sanders scored on a Hayley Tierce sacrifice fly. Sanders led off the inning with a single.

In Game 2, it was all Warhawks. GSW starter Brittany Childs was rocked in this game. Auburn Montgomery scored five runs in the first and seven in the second inning to build a 12-0 lead. Childs gave up 11 earned runs on nine hits in two innings of work to take the loss. Her record now falls to 3-7 on the season.

Ansley Dean came on in relief and pitched the rest of the way for GSW. Dean gave up four earned runs on six hits and struck out four. AUM’s Jaycie Walker went 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Warhawks. Hannah Dailey and Gracie Harris each added three hits in four plate appearances.

Graysen Sanders recorded the only hit of the game for the Lady Canes. It was a single to left center in the fifth inning.

GSW returns to Peach Belt Conference play when they travel to Pembroke, NC to take on UNC Pembroke on Friday, April 6, for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1 p.m., followed by the second game at 3 p.m. The Lady Canes are currently in sixth place in the PBC standings at 5-5.
