Handgun Training Class: The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office hosts a Ladies Handgun Training Class. The first phase is classroom instruction at 6 p.m. April 12 at the Sumter County Ag Center, William Bowen Point. No guns are allowed at this session. Autism Rally: ASD Mind Map presents Flavors of Autism, an autism awareness rally, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 28 in the Georgia Southwestern State University Student Success Center conference rooms. Guest speakers are Mary Lorraine Spurill, M.Ed., BCBA; and Ann Marie Rambo, M.A. BCBA. Bring your children out for food, fun and games.

Community Meet & Greet: The Americus-Sumter High School Athletic Department hosts a Meet & Greet session with the new ASH Head Football Coach Larry Harold at 7 p.m. April 30 at the Americus-Sumter High School gymnasium. There will be performances from the middle and high school bands and cheerleaders. There will also be refreshments, Panther gear for sale, Booster Club info and Spring Practice info.

Called Meeting: The Middle Flint Regional E9-1-1 Authority holds a called meeting at 4 p.m. April 24 at 222 Hayes Ave. for the purpose of adopting a 2018-2019 Budget. The meeting is open to the public.

GriefShare: First Baptist Church offers a non-denominational video series and biblical concepts for healing after the death of a loved one. Led by caring people, participants are provided workbooks for personal study and receive encouragement through small-group discussion. Meetings are from 7-8:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of each month. There is no cost and the meetings are open to anyone grieving the death of a loved one. Soup Kitchen: The Soup Kitchen, at 437 S. Hampton St., is open at 6 p.m. every Wednesday to all in need.

Volunteers Needed: SOWEGA Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), office serving a six-county area, needs volunteers to work with abused and neglected children who are involved in the court system. A CASA volunteer advocates for the child’s best interest before the court. Training classes are available soon. For more information, call 931-4488.

Adult Reading Skills: Adult Literacy Action Inc. has several openings for adult individuals interested in improving their reading skills. The organization is affiliated with the Lake Blackshear Regional Library. Volunteer tutors are available to work with individuals on a one-on-one basis.
