GSW Women’s Tennis falls to Augusta University in season finale

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University Women’s Tennis Team lost their regular season finale to Augusta University 6-3 on Friday, April 13 at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.

It started out well for the Lady Hurricanes as Celia del Castillo defeated Eva Miralles-Miro 6-4, 6-0. Maria Taboada followed that up with a win over Ana Faria 6-4, 6-4. However, GSW’s Charli Allen ran into trouble when she faced Merye Gobernate and lost in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Augusta’s Alejandra Arranz defeated Kendall Crew 6-2, 6-2. GSW’s Anneliese Leahy lost to Amelia Pinoargote 6-4, 6-4. In the final singles match, the Lady Hurricanes’ Ashley Denby lost to Maria Alice Vieira 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles action, things started out well for the Lady Canes as the duo of Celia del Castillo/Maria Taboada defeated Augusta’s combo of Eva Mirales-Miro/Amelia Pinoargote 8-6. However, The Lady Jaguars’ combo of Merye Gobernate/Ana Faria defeated the GSW team of Anneliese Leahy/Charli Allen 8-2. The final doubles match went to Augusta by default as GSW’s Kendall Crew was without a playing partner.
