AMERICUS — The City of Americus Main Street, Georgia Power Company, and the Sumter County Development Authority have partnered to host the monthly First Friday in Downtown Americus from 5-8 p.m. May 4.
Each month, the First Friday celebrations are themed to highlight various aspects of the community, and the May theme is “May’d in Sumter.” Businesses from across Sumter County will gather along Jackson Street in Downtown Americus, sharing samples and displays of products manufactured. The items range from boats to bourbon, wine, coffee, olive oil, refractory minerals, fertilizer, signature sweets, guitars, glass windows and doors, to activewear clothing and more.
Both Georgia Power Company and the Development Authority work with local industry and manufacturers to meet their needs and ensure the community maintains an environment that is conducive to the businesses being strong and successful. Knowing that along with manufacturing products, the businesses also provide jobs and community support, which in turn allows for families and citizens to live, work and thrive in Sumter County, the community strives to be supportive and engaged with business and industry.
Citizens from Sumter County, the region and state are all invited to tour the Jackson Street area in downtown Americus, exploring the products and learning more about the companies. There is no cost to attend, and children and adults alike will find areas of interest. According to Americus Mayor Barry Blount, “I sincerely invite the citizens of Americus and Sumter County to attend this month’s First Friday event and not only see firsthand, the many diverse and unique businesses and industries that are located here, but to also recognize their important contribution in job creation and economic growth and vitality for our community.”
There will be products, samples and door prizes throughout the evening, sharing tastes of the many wonderful products “May’d in Sumter.”
