National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer was commemorated locally on Thursday with a noon program in front of the Russell Thomas Sr. Public Safety Building. The annual event, sponsored by the Sumter Area Ministerial Association, featured 11 local clergy on the program, music and David Snell of the Fuller Center for Housing as keynote speaker. Others on the program included Americus Police Chief Mark Scott, Sumter County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Col. Eric Bryant, Koinonia Farms President Bren Dubay, and a Color Guard. The clergy offered prayers for all segments of society including our government, our law enforcement and military, our businesses, our educationl system, our churches, our families, our poor and disenfranchised, and our medical professionals. Rena Ingram led the singing of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ and the Rev. Randy Saye of ‘My Country ‘Tis of Thee.’ The Rev. Norris Harris was master of ceremonies. This year’s theme was unity.
