Americus-Sumter girls track & field team excels at region meet

ALBANY – Several Americus-Sumter members of the girls track & field team turned in excellent times at the Region 1-AAAA Meet held at Hugh Mills Stadium Tuesday through Thursday, April 17-19.

Selliyah Owens finished in fifth place overall in the Girls 400 Meter Dash, missing qualifying for the AAAA sectional track meet by one spot. Owens had broken the ASH school record in the 400 Meter Dash earlier in the season. She reset her own school record in the Region Final with a time of 1:02.71.

Ayesha Williams finished in fifth place in the Girls Long Jump for Girls Track AAAA with a jump of 16’9. Kejuana Morgan competed in the Girls Shot Put competition in the Region 1-AAAA Meet. She finished in seventh place. The Girls Relay Team, made up of Ayesha Williams, Da’mitria Clemons, Najayla Williams and Andrienne Douglas competed in the 400 Meter Relay final, and finished in fifth place overall in the region.

The Girls Relay team had an outstanding season, advancing to the region final as the top-four team. They broke Americus-Sumter high school record earlier in the season. They also bettered their best relay time by three seconds. They ended their season on a high note and broke their own 4×100 Meter Relay record again in the region final with a time of 50.71 seconds.
