The students in Emily Strickland’s homeroom at Sumter County Intermediate School had a blast competing to see which group could complete the STEM activity of building the tallest egg tower from plastic Easter eggs. They had to use the eggs creatively to build the tower, and then use measuring tapes to find how tall it was. Students love participating in these fun, problem-solving STEM activities. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. The STEM movement is meant to develop the deep mathematical and scientific underpinnings students need to be competitive in the 21st-century workforce.
