Leonard LaRussa elected FPMB president

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Federation of Podiatric Medical Boards (FPMB), a national nonprofit that promotes high standards for podiatric physician licensure, regulation and practice, announces the election of Leonard R. La Russa, DPM, as president. He was elected at the 2018 executive board meeting held on April 27 in Charlotte. La Russa has served on the FPBM executive board since 2016 and serves as the vice chair of the FPMB’s Interstate Podiatric Medical Licensing Compact committee.
Russell J. Stoner, executive director of the FPMB stated, “Dr. La Russa brings to the FPMB his extensive experience in podiatry, including serving as president of the Georgia State Board of Podiatry Examiners. His passion for the podiatric profession, leadership and high engagement will continue to guide the organization in serving as a leader in improving the quality, safety and integrity of podiatric medical health care.” La Russa will lead the FPMB as it explores creating an interstate licensure compact for podiatry and responds to Federal occupational licensing reform efforts.
Dr. La Russa is a board certified podiatric physician who graduated from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and completed his surgical residency at the University at Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He practices at the Family Foot and Ankle Center of Americus, Georgia and is a nationally known lecturer and published author.
Established in 1936, the Federation of Podiatric Medical Boards’ mission is to be a leader in improving the quality, safety and integrity of podiatric medical health care by promoting high standards for podiatric physician licensure, regulation and practice. The FPMB membership is comprised of podiatric medical boards across all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
