Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 35 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Austin Urethane, 122 Crisp Drive. Sumter County Fire & Rescue was already on the scene and no hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the dental practice of Riccardi and Riccardi at 1106 Fetner Drive. It was activated by cleaning equipment.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Clarence Jordan Center, 121 Habitat St. It was determined to be a faulty pull station and no hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Ridge Street. Upon arrival, the occupant said the fire was out but wanted the stove checked. She told firefighters she had been cooking Fabuloso on the stove to freshen the house and it caught fire.
• Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Douglas Circle. They found a small fire behind the clothes dryer and extinguished it with a water can. The ventilated the structure.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at 305 W. Lamar St. They found it had been activated when owner was changing out a smoke alarm and fire alarm.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Austin Urethane, 122 Crisp Drive. No hazards were found but an employee told them they had been experiencing problems with the system.
• Firefighters responded to Patterson Street to a traffic accident in which a vehicle had struck a wall.
• Firefighters responded to East Furlow Street to a report of a possible structure fire. The occupant told them he had smelled something burning near his back door and shot off the power to the structure at the breaker panel. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a burn complaint on Ridge Street where they found a homeowner burning dead leaves and yard waste in the back yard. They informed the homeowner of the city’s no-burn policy and the fire was extinguished.
• Firefighters responded to Apple Street to a potential stove fire. Upon arrival, the fire was out. They assisted in ventilating the structure.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Park Row Extension where they met Sumter County Fire & Rescue personnel who said there was no threat of fire, and alarm had been activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Manhattan Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at North Lee and Lamar streets.
• Firefighters responded to Southwestern Estates to an automatic aid call from Sumter Fire & Rescue for a possible stove fire. They found no fire but the stove was arcing flames. They found no fire or smoke. The occupant was advised to contact the landlord.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulvard and West Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to East Glessner Street to a possible structure fire. Georgia Southwestern State University Police were on scene trying to determine which unit had called 911. They made contact with occupant who said her heater had briefly on fire. The found an overheated single outlet beside the HVAC unit.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Creekside Commons. They found a plug-in air freshener that appeared to be burning the wick rather than air fragrance. No other hazards were found.
