AMERICUS — Georgia Tech Head Coach Paul Johnson and former basketball star Jon Barry earned $37,500 at the 2018 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament. The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will split Georgia Tech’s $37,500 winnings equally between The Methodist Home for Children & Youth and an endowed scholarship at Georgia Tech.
The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge is a charity golf event featuring NCAA head coaches and former athletes and celebrities competing for scholarship and charity. A total of $650,000 was paid out to the 11 participating teams this year, with the winnings split evenly between a charity of the coaches’ choice and an endowed scholarship at each university. Since its creation in 2007, the event has contributed a total of $7.6 million in scholarship and charity, helping make the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl college football’s most charitable bowl game.
The Methodist Home for Children & Youth was established in 1872 in Macon to serve Georgia’s neglected and abused children by restoring childhoods, strengthening families and cultivating a people-building organization. The $18,750 donation from the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge will be used to support the boys and girls served by The Methodist Home. The Home provides residential care, therapeutic services and educational support to children throughout South Georgia.
