The 5K classes at Southland Academy took a field trip to Calhoun Produce to pick strawberries. The trip included an educational visit to the strawberry room where students were taught how to pick the perfect strawberries. Students then tested out their skills by picking a pint of their own strawberries in the strawberry patch. Students went on a wagon ride and saw a variety of animals such as alligators, cat fish, mules, and cows. Afterward, the classes visited a barn with chickens, goats, and baby pigs. They even enjoyed a lively pig race! Students finished off the field trip with an educational visit to the honey bee exhibit where they tasted local honey and enjoyed a cool cup of homemade strawberry lemonade. Shown are Claire Fletcher and Samuel Kelley enjoying the field trip.
