AMERICUS — Mrs. Eunice Anderson Griggs, age 90, passed away on Sunday morning, May 20, 2018, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, from the graveside at Lebanon Cemetery, with the Rev. Brandon Patterson officiating. Nephews served as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.

Born Sept. 25, 1927, in Plains, she was a daughter of the late Garland Durelle Anderson and the late Allie Adams Anderson. She retired in 1992, from Citizens Bank, where she had worked as a bookkeeper and bank teller.

Mrs. Griggs was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, and was a member of the PALS Club, and the Plains Historic Trust.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Marvin Griggs Sr.; by a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Robert Alston; and by her siblings: Elliott Anderson, Durelle Anderson (Dot), Eola Mae Jennings (Jack), Mattie Beth Spires (William), and Florine Bailey (Arthur).

Survivors include one son, Marvin Griggs Jr. (Lynn) of Preston; one daughter, Maxine Beall (Leon) of Ellerslie; four grandchildren: Niki McGee, Adam Griggs (Sarita), Ashley Pierce (Jeff), and Shonna Shellhouse (Mark); eight great-grandchildren: Miranda Beall, Joel McGee, Scott McGee, Lowin Griggs, Tessa Pierce, Anna Pierce, Lily Shellhouse, and Carter Shellhouse; sister-in-law, Carol Anderson of Plains; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mrs. Griggs’ suggestion that memorial contributions be made to Maranatha Baptist Church, P.O. Box 307, Plains, GA 31780.
