John C. Taylor: May 19, 2018

AMERICUS — Mr. John Calvin Taylor, age 87, passed away on Saturday morning, May 19, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his children, his dogs, and his cows.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith Parks and the Rev. Bud Womack officiating, and Zachary Taylor presenting the eulogy. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., and at other times at the family home, 385 Ga. Highway 30 West of Americus.

Born Aug. 26, 1930 in Alma, Ga., he was a son of the late L. W. Taylor and the late Minnie Holton Taylor.

Mr. Taylor owned and operated Georgia Pest Control Inc. He served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War, and was a graduate of Jacksonville Business College. He was on the Sumter County Board of Commissioners, the board of directors for the Sumter County Health Department, and the board of directors for St. Thomas Square in Panama City. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Georgia Pest Control Association, Certified Pest Control Operators, Columbus-Phenix City Pest Control Association, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marty Taylor; and by a grandson, Michael Taylor.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Taylor (fiancee Kelly Tanner); grandsons: Zachary Taylor (Tania), John Taylor (Alina), and Oliver Taylor; and great-grandchildren: Olivia, Yardley, Vayda, Thor, Mela, Mason, and Presley.
