First Friday brings ‘Pig’Nic’

AMERICUS — On Friday, June 1, Americus will hold its monthly “First Friday” downtown-wide open house. Americus Main Street will host a downtown Pig’Nic! Cooks will be located at businesses throughout downtown with free samples of delicious barbecue. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with most shops and businesses staying open until 8 p.m. “First Friday after Dark” continues the festivities into the night after 8 p.m.
Businesses will be open late with art shows, food samples, shopping discounts, and more! There will also be free trolley rides from 6-9 p.m. sponsored by Americus Main Street. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a night out in downtown while also sampling some hometown barbecue.
Here are a few teasers of this First Friday’s activities. Mobile Glassblowing Studios will have glassblowing demonstrations! The Maze will have half-priced t-shirts and will be offering 30 percent off of Corkcicles. The Americus Welcome Center will be open with new Georgia’s Sumter County branded items for sale, board games, and karaoke. The Huss Foundation will have artwork by local artists on display and for purchase. Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio will have $5 baskets for sale and will be offering a free gift with qualifying purchases. Americus Snoball and Shaved Ice Co. will be opening for the summer offering $1 samplers as a great way to try all 40+ flavors!
Get ready for a great evening in downtown Americus. Enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants downtown while you’re here! Everyone is invited to come experience the city’s art, music, food, wares and crafts. Maps and playbills detailing the evening’s events will be available at participating locations.
