BRUNSWICK — Roger Ross Milner, 90, of Dawson, Ga., passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick. A memorial service to celebrate his life was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Dawson, conducted by his family, and officiated by Pastor Joel Walker.
Mr. Milner was the son of the late Fred Milner and Jewell Parham. He was born April 3, 1928, in Randolph County, Ga., graduating from Graves High School. He worked in the ship yards in Pascagoula, Miss., before joining the United States Air Force, where he served for 33 years. He worked in Strategic Air Command, working with the Hound Dog missiles on the B-52 Bomber during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired to Terrell County, where he worked at Randolph-Clay High School in Cuthbert as a tech teacher, retiring 30 years later.
Roger was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Dawson, where he was one of the original starters of their TV ministry, and a member of the Willing Workers Men’s Sunday School Class.
Roger was preceded in death by both parents; his wife of 54 years, Ardelle Johnson Milner; daughter, Beverly Booth; two brothers, Fred “Buddy” Milner and Ned K. Milner; and a sister, Jean Milner.
Surviving are his brother, Marcus of Morristown, Tenn.; two sons, Dr. James Milner (Martha) of Tifton, and Steve Milner (Brenda) of Graves/Brunswick; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, and eight step great-great-grandchildren.
Roger loved his God, his family, his friends, and his country that he served faithfully. He was a selfless man and was loved and admired by many. He will deeply be missed.
