Reminder of Father’s Day Bake Sale
This is a special reminder that the women of Ellaville United Methodist Church are having a Bake Sale today at Piggly Wiggly, until all desserts are gone.
All proceeds will go toward the big 160-year anniversary celebration of the church in October.

Ellaville-Schley Historical board meets
On June 5, the Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society board met in the Conference Room of the Schley County Courthouse.
The upcoming auction in September was discussed and committees are being organized for that and other projects.
We also welcome everyone to join the organization.We have members in California, Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and all over Georgia.
Board members were present were Kim Lawhorn, Larry Wall, Wilbur Justice, Susan DeVane and Nancy McMath Young.

Schley County Health board meets
The Schley County Health board met June 6 in the Conference Room of Schley County Department of Family and Children Services.
Chairman Nancy McMath Young called the meeting to order. Minutes were discussed and approved.
JoAnne Strickland gave the District Director’s Report.
Kristy Smith, Schley County’s Health nurse, presented her nursing report which included special activities that play a big part of health care needs such as screenings and training classes.
The Environmental Health Report was given by Lincoln Mitchell. He reported on one positive case of rabies for an animal and a test for a person, which came back negative.
Berta Cox gave Financial Overview after making her report. The board unanimously approved the budget.
Board members that were in attendance, other than those mentioned, were Larry Wall, Adam Hathaway, Karen Montgomery and Leah Clark.
The next board meeting is Sept. 19.

Schley Family Connection updates
• Schley County Family Connection served 200 hot meals last week and this week to students attending Academic Camp and Summer Football Camp at Schley County High School. These meals will be served until school starts back in July.
The meals are prepared by Feeding the Valley of Columbus and funded by the United Way. These meals are delivered Monday through Thursday each week.
• The Summer Reading Program, sponsored by the Schley County Public Library, continues through June 26. There are currently 55 students enrolled in the program that starts at 1:30 p.m. each day at the Schley County Board of Education building. It includes arts and crafts, music, comedy, magic, wildlife demonstrations and children’s theater. Children 8 years and younger are required to read at least 25 books, while children age 9 and above are required to read at least 12 chapter books.
• Schley County 4-H Chapter attended Summer Camp this week at the Wahsega 4-H Center near Dahlonega.
There were 33 students from Schley County 4-H that sold Vidalia onions to finance this trip to 4 the Georgia mountains. This is one of the largest groups from Schley County to have attended summer camp in recent years.
