AMERICUS — On Friday, July 6, Americus holds its monthly “First Friday” downtown-wide open house. This First Friday, Americus Main Street is bringing the beach to downtown Americus! Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with most shops and businesses staying open until 8 p.m. “First Friday After Dark” continues the festivities into the night after 8 p.m.
Americus Main Street has ordered 60 tons of sand for this event! Everyone is invited to come and have a Beach Party experience while also enjoying the city’s art, music, food, wares and crafts. Andy T will be on the beach playing his steel drums offering unique beach-style music to the atmosphere. The downtown businesses are excited and ready to get the party started. Attendees can stay cool by sitting under the misting tent or purchasing a snow cone from Americus Snoball and Shaved Ice Co., which is located right next to the beach! The Americus Street Trolley will provide attendees transportation during the event. The trolley will make a loop of the event and is provided by Americus Main Street, free of charge. All activities, exhibits and performances are free. Maps and playbills detailing the events will be available at participating locations. Local artwork will be on display throughout downtown. The Americus Center for the Arts invites everyone to come in, be a part of their art show and demonstrations, and paint on sea shells! Attendees can also take advantage of great shopping deals downtown on Friday night. Classy 5 Boutique and The Maze will be open late offering something special in the form of discounts, samples, tastings, giveaways, and more for customers. Stop by The Huss Foundation for free beer and hot dogs and the Windsor Hotel for food and drink specials! Also, the Americus Welcome Center will have board games, free samples, giveaways, and karaoke!
This event is organized by Americus Main Street and the City of Americus. One of the goals of our organization is to cultivate downtown Americus’ economic and cultural enrichment by providing a platform for entertainment and social engagement to the general public on a regular basis.
