Ellaville celebrated July 4th with flags flying throughout downtown
Ellaville celebrated the 4th of July with American flags flying down town on the sidewalks and in City Park.
If you haven’t been through Ellaville when all of the flags are on display on special occasions, you haven’t seen anything so pretty with the red, white and blue waving along the streets downtown.
The Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion display the flags in memory of all of the late members of the American Legion. We thank them for this.

The 2018 Engineering and Operations Conference was held by Electric Cities of Georgia at the Savannah Marriott on Riverside recently.
Adam Wall, electrical superintendent for the City of Ellaville, received the “System of Improvement Award” for work that went beyond the call of duty to improve service to the community.
The Electric Cities of Georgia work with 52 city utilities in Georgia to provide special training and safety expertise. Only one award is given each year to one of the Cities members.
One of the big improvements that the City of Ellaville made this past year are the new lines from east of town to improve a back-up feeder. Adam said this will help minimize outage problems.
City Manager Lynne McChargue added that they had been planning engineering and getting funding for a redundant power source for the city. She also said bringing in another source of power to Ellaville will reduce outages, improve quality of service to customers and open economic development opportunities for Ellaville and Schley County.
Lynne recognized all the hard work that went into this special project that won the award.

City of Ellaville hires new police officer
Ellaville City Manager Lynne McChargue announces that the city has hired a new police officer, Michael Hale, on June 11.
Michael had worked with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office before coming to Ellaville. His wife Heather Hale is employed with Ameris Bank in Ellaville. They live in Sumter County with their family.
This new hired brings the number of officers to five. Chief of Police is Robbie Lightner.

Ellaville Methodist Choir sings at Perfect Care
The Ellaville United Methodist Church Choir and some others traveled to Americus to sing for the residents at Perfect Care on the evening of July 5. The choir really enjoys this special time each month with all the residents.
Those that attended were Wayne and Nora Morrow, Jonathan and LeeAnne Beckum, Sharon Wall, Olivia Mallichek, Alan Schultz, Maci and Kylie Lawhorn, Danica Morris, Haley Lamberth, Judy McClellan, and choir director, Mary Nan Pilcher.
Wayne Morrow played several songs on his harmonica. Alan Schultz played a special on piano, and the Rev. Jonathan Beckum played his guitar and sang several songs.
