ATLANTA – Three returning members from the nationally-ranked South Georgia Tech women’s basketball team recently participated in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Star showcase in Atlanta.

SGT forwards Bigue Sarr, Ricka Jackson and guard Alysssa Nieves were invited to participate.

The three SGT Lady Jets joined 40 of the top women’s junior college basketball players from this area. Over 100 coaches and scouts from major basketball programs across the country were in Atlanta to scout the state’s top talent. One of the purposes for the All-Star showcase was to give the junior college players exposure for the next level. “I want to go to the WNBA, so I want to get some big, big, big schools to get some good looks,” Sarr said.

Sarr’s teammate, Ricka Jackson, echoed that sentiment. “I hope to get more offers going into the season so they can look at me throughout the whole season,” Jackson said.

SGT sophomore guard Alyssa Nieves credits SGT head coach James Frey and assistant coach Kenzia Conyers for helping her get to this point. “Coach Frey and assistant coach Kenzia Conyers are both great coaches,” Nieves said. “They know what they’re talking about, so they put us through what we need to go through to get us better. Hopefully, that’s going to get us looks from Division 1 colleges.”

SGT finished the 2017-18 season with an overall record of 29-6 and were ranked as one of the top 16 teams in NJCAA Division 1. Coach Frey is expecting great things from these three returning players during the 2018-19 season.
