CAMILLA – The Wildcats of Schley County travelled to Camilla to face a familiar foe in a scrimmage game: Mitchell County. It was the Hornets who defeated the Wildcats 22-21 last year in the state playoffs. Now, the two teams were hoping to lock horns in a scrimmage game before their respective season openers next Friday night.

However, the weather wouldn’t cooperate. Lightning delays cancelled the scrimmage.

Schley County was ready to play ball. The Wildcats won the coin toss and ran out on to the field. However, just as they did that, the lightning started. Officials waited until 8:50 p.m. At that point, the coaches and officials decided to try to play the game. All of the players of both teams began to take the field. However, lightning was seen again. At that point, the game was called off.

Schley County will regroup and prepare for their season opener next Friday night, August 17, when they host Region 4-A opponent Marion County. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
