Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 68 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to three traffic accidents on East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to a trash can fire on Waitsman Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to Heads Avenue to a report of a burning rubber odor. They detected a faint odor of smoke around the kitchen area. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to East Forsyth Street to a report of a structure fire. The occupant told them she had been cooking on the stove when a pot caught fire, which she extinguished. They removed smoke from the structure.
• Firefighters responded to Horton Drive to a report of a man lying in the roadway. EMS was already on scene and the man said he was fine.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street along with Sumter County Fire & Rescue. The alarm was inadvertently activated while it was being repaired.
• Firefighters responded to North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to a report of an electrical panel box sparking. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Starlight Circle. The alarm was malfunctioning.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Felder Street along with Sumter County Fire & Rescue. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to West Rockhill Drive to automatic aid for Sumter County Fire & Rescue. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Thomas Drive.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a tree in the roadway on Church Street. They found a tree that had fallen on nearby property and the tree top was in the roadway. They removed it.
• Firefighters responded to the report of a possible structure fire on Wildwood Circle. They found it was steam from condensation on the roof evaporating. The attic was accessed and no smoke or fire were found.
• Firefighters responded, along with Sumter County Fire & Rescue, to an alarm on South Hampton Street. They found the alarm had malfunctioned due to a dirty smoke detector.
• Firefighters went to O’Hara Road to check on a faulty detector sounding. They replaced the battery.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Upper River Road but the call was cancelled when it was determined that a child had inadvertently pulled the alarm.
• Firefighters responded, along with Sumter County Fire & Rescue, to East Jefferson Street to a smoke alarm. The occupant told them she had smelled near her clothes dryer and had unplugged it. No hazards were found.
