AMERICUS — Carl Howard Veatch, 91, of Americus, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at his home. Born in Walker County to the late William and Almedia Veatch on Sept. 14, 1926, he lived in rural Americus most of his life. He was a faithful and devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon for 55 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II and was a retired farmer.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Woolsey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church, and at other times at the family residence 866 Lamar Road, Americus GA.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, June Veatch; three daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Jody Dupree, Carleen and Richard McCorkle, and Beth and George Kelly. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Christopher and Stephanie Dupree, Kallie and Mike Turner, Kerry and Melissa Dupree, Mystie and Walt Medlin, and Stephen Barnes; six great-grandchildren: Jacob Dupree, Lilliana Medlin, Andrew Dupree, Mia Dupree, Eastyn Turner, and Wyatt Medlin; one sister, Barbara Jean Stewart of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers are Christopher Dupree, Kerry Dupree, Stephen Barnes, Mike Turner, Walt Medlin, and Jakob Hart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Lawrence Veatch, Dot Cook, the Rev. Clayton Veatch, Dub Veatch, Alleen Zito, Lewis Veatch, Sylvia McCarty, and twin brother, the Rev. Carol Veatch.
