Dougherty’s Jana Lee no-hits the Lady Panthers

AMERICUS – The Americus-Sumter Lady Panthers struggled against Dougherty starting pitcher Jana Lee. Lee pitched a no hitter to help lead the Lady Trojans to a 9-1 win.

With one out in the top of the first, Dougherty’s Kaylin Thompson was hit by a pitch by ASH starter Taylor Garcia.

Garcia then hit Lee to put runners at first and second with one out. Zhanique Lewis popped out to Nyjah Carson for the second out of the inning. However, Thompson stole third base and Lee stole second. Thompson then was able to steal home to give Dougherty a 1-0 lead. Garcia then hit Jani Brown to load the bases for R’cardriana Sloan. Garcia hit Sloan, loading the bases for Erica Abney. Fortunately for Garcia and Americus-Sumter, Garcia was able to strike out Abney for the third out.

Americus-Sumter got their first and only run of the game in the bottom of the first. DeAsia Ford bunted and reached on an error. Ford then stole second base, third base and home to tie the game at 1-1.

However, it was all Dougherty from there. Jana Lee homered in the top of the third. Then in the top of the fourth with two outs, Garcia hit Akimbryah Kendrick. Thompson then singled, advancing Kendrick to second with two outs. Jana Lee then hit an RBI double, scoring two runs and giving the Lady Trojans a 4-1 lead. Garcia then hit yet another Dougherty hitter, Ja’Nadja Williams. Lee and Williams both executed a double-steal. Lee stole third and Williams stole second base. All of this took place with two outs. Fortunately for Americus-Sumter, Garcia got Jani Brown to ground out to end the inning.

The Lady Trojans scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to complete the 9-1 victory.

Taylor Garcia pitched the entire game for Americus-Sumter. She gave up nine runs on six hits. She walked three batters, but struck out nine. What hurt Garcia the most was eight hit-batsman.

Dougherty’s Jana Lee was dominant in the circle. She gave up a run, but no hits. She walked none but struck out 15. Lee also had a good day at the plate. She went 2-for-2, scored two runs and drove in three RBIs.

Americus-Sumter will try to rebound when they travel to Albany to face Monroe on Tuesday, September 4. The last time these two teams met on Tuesday, August 21, the Lady Panthers trailed 13-0, but stormed back to win 20-14 over Monroe. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
