Youngdale tosses a complete game in shutout of Deerfield-Windsor

ALBANY – Behind the dominant pitching of Rylan Youngdale, the Southland Lady Raiders softball team totally shut down the Lady Knights’ offense on their way to a 13-0 win over Deerfield-Windsor on Wednesday, September 5, at Deerfield-Windsor School.

Youngdale pitched a complete game for Southland. The game ended after four innings due to a run rule, and Youngdale pitched all four innings. She gave up no runs and only two hits. She walked one batter and struck out three.

The Lady Raiders jumped on Deerfield-Windsor right away in the top of the first. Alli Dent was hit by a pitch to start off the game. This was followed by a single by Holly McCain. McCain advanced to second on a bad throw and Dent scored the first run of the game.

Sara Beth Storey was also hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second with nobody out.

Brookland Weaver then bunted and reached on an error by the DW pitcher. This brought McCain home for Southland’s second run. After Weaver stole second base, Reese Roland drove in two runs on a single to give the Lady Raiders a 4-0 lead.

Katie Rogers struck out for the first out of the inning, but Southland was not finished. Morgan Minick reached on a bunt single, but tried to reach second. However, Minick was thrown out at second for the second out of the inning. In spite of Minick making the second out, Roland scored on the play, giving Southland a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Raiders blew the game open by scoring eight runs in the top of the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Raiders scored those runs on eight singles, two hit batsmen and a walk. Morgan Minick also stole home in this inning. That inning put the game away for Southland.

Holly McCain went 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring two runs and an RBI. Sara Beth Storey went 1-for-2 at the plate. She scored two runs and drove in two RBIs. Reese Roland also had a solid day at the plate. She was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Ansley Weldon went 1-for-1 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Southland scored 13 runs on 12 hits and committed one error. Deerfield-Windsor was held scoreless with only two hits. The Lady Knights committed one error.
