AMERICUS — Between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, local citizens will have an opportunity to interact with local law enforcement during the Coffee with a Cop event at Café’ Campesino at 134 W. Lamar St. This is part of the third annual National Coffee with a Cop Day.
Here in Americus, and around the nation, law enforcement agencies, businesses, and organizations are hosting relaxed, informal get-togethers allowing citizens to talk about issues they feel are important. Coffee with a Cop sessions are full of inquisitive individuals on both sides of the table. And everyone is building relationships, one cup at a time.
Coffee with a Cop’s casual conversations help put real faces and personalities on each side, bring concerns to the table, and create better understanding of all involved. The aim is to provide everyone with a voice, to enhance cultural awareness, and strengthen understanding.
In small towns and large cities alike, law enforcement officers and citizens can learn about each other, form bonds, and grow important community relationships to help strengthen their communities, all knowing that other departments and citizens all around the country are doing the same thing on the same day.
Fifty states have hosted a Coffee with a Cop event, and more than 10,000 such events have been held over the past six years. More than five languages have been spoken at such events, and 14 countries have joined the movement. Some 2,000 events were held worldwide at the second annual National Coffee with a Cop Day.
Local citizens will have the opportunity to talk with members of law enforcement from the Americus Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, and Georgia Southwestern State University Police at the Oct. 3 event at Café’ Campesino in downtown.
