AMERICUS — The Americus Police Department released information about a body found early Friday in north Americus.

The press release says that a multi-state investigation into a missing person out of Florida resulted in the locating a deceased person in a wooded area off the 900 block of Railroad Street around 7 a.m. Friday.

Special Agent Terry Howard of the Region 3 Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to the Times-Recorder that the body is being sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon. He said they did not know if the subject is a male or female, how long the body had been there, and wouldn’t reveal how the body was found.

The Americus Police Department and the GBI are conducting the investigation.
