AMERICUS — James Ross “Jim” Littlefield Sr. of Americus passed away very peacefully early Saturday morning, Sept. 15, 2018, at the Willson Hospice House in Albany, Ga. Jim was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Newell, Charlton County, Ga. Jim was the son of Joseph Carnie and Eleanor Roberts Ross Littlefield Jr.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Central Baptist Church, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Hugh DeLoach and Dr. Bryan Myers will officiate.

Jim dearly loved God. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon.

Jim was a very proud Ramblin’ Wreck as he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1955. He was a resident engineer for the State Highway Department (now the Georgia D.O.T.) for Sumter, Webster, and Stewart counties and was a civil engineer for Reeves Construction Co. In 1961, he left Reeves to form his own company as a registered land durveyor and professional civil engineer in Americus.

He and his crew-chief, the former Benja Dupree, were known for catching rattlesnakes and displaying them in the infamous wire cage at the office before donating them to the local college. He was proud of many professional accomplishments but particularly being appointed by Governors George Busbee and Jimmy Carter to investigate two different boundary disputes between Macon and Taylor counties. Jim was the project engineer for the Windsor Hotel renovation and was extremely proud of its restoration. Many subdivisions, roads, and property lines were surveyed by him over the years and bear his mark.

Jim was a former member of the Jaycees and served 12 years as a City Councilman in Americus. He dearly loved Americus and considered Sumter County as “God’s Country.” He was an Eagle Scout and member of Troop 22 in Americus. In 1951, Jim was the first recipient of the Chehaw Council’s God and Country Award. He served many years as a Scoutmaster for Troop 27 in Americus, receiving the Silver Beaver Award in 1978, for his service.

Jim is survived by his wife of over 63 years Sondra Dianne Dawson Littlefield; two sons: James Ross (Jimbo) Littlefield Jr. and Timothy Dawson Littlefield; three beloved grandchildren: Ross Littlefield of Bridgeport, Conn.; Jake Littlefield of Woodstock; and Dianne (Jordan) Gay of Dawson; two special great-grandchildren: Hadley and Henry Gay of Dawson; two nephews and one niece; a son-in-law, Bobby Valentino of Moultrie; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Littlefield of Warner Robins. He loved all animals and was especially fond of his cat Smokey and his dog Andy.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Eleanor Roberts Littlefield Valentino; and his two brothers Joseph Carnie Littlefield III and John Morrison Littlefield.
