GSW golf team finishes 10th at AFLAC/Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS – GSW golfer Vincent men’s golfer Vincent Norman placed third in the individually at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational while the Hurricanes, as a team, finished 10th overall.

In the third round, which was played on Tuesday, September 25, Norman shot his best score of the tournament, going five under par with a 66. Norman shot scores of 70, 71 and 66. That landed him a total score of 207 to secure his top-five finish out of 89 players. GSW finished 10th of 17 teams who competed in the invitational held at the Country Club of Columbus on Monday and Tuesday, September 24-25.

The Hurricanes placed scores of 288, 289 and 290, going 15 over par with a total score of 867. That was enough to land GSW in the top 10. Carson-Newman won the tournament with a total score of 843, followed by Florida Southern (846), Valdosta State (849), Florida Tech (851) and Lee University (862).

The Hurricanes’ Ryan Cahill shot a one over par 72 (214) in the third round, which placed him in a tie for 24th place. Will Hernandez finished round three with a three over par 74 (227), tying for 66th place. Tyler Barker tied for 71st place with an overall score of 228, and Cole Madison finished 77th with a score of 230.

Norman was joined by individual winners Sam Broadhurst (206), Brady Carman (206) Jake Headrick (208) and Michael VanDerLean (208). They all finished in the top five.

The Hurricanes’ next match will be in the NCAA Division II Preview, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday, October 1-2. The tournament will be played at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.
