AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University Women’s Soccer Team gave everything they had, but two first-half goals by the Lady Braves of UNC Pembroke were enough to beat GSW 2-0 Saturday evening, October 13, at Hurricane Field.

Stacey Scott scored those two first-half goals for UNC Pembroke. The first one came by way of an assist from Miranda Addison in the 23rd minute. Scott scored her second goal, which came by way of an assist from Brianna De coteau in the 42nd minute.

GSW (2-11, 0-7 PBC) was led in shots on goal by Leila Hamed. Hamed took two shots on goal out of a team total of seven. Ella Hawkins, Michelle Gustavsen and Alison Rugel all took cracks at goal. One thing that hurt the Lady Hurricanes was a red card issued to Rugel. This forced GSW to play a man down for the remainder of the match.

The Lady Braves (5-4, 2-3 PBC) outshot GSW 24-7 and had a plus-one advantage in corner kicks over the Lady Hurricanes.

GSW, still searching for their first Peach Belt Conference win of the season, will travel to Columbus, GA on Wednesday, October 17, to take on Columbus State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
