Aug. 8-17
• Firefighters responded to 4r calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a telephone line on Elm Avenue.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Lakeview Circle.
• Firefighters responded to cable down on Virginia Avenue.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Hunter Drive. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a possible grease fire on Briar Patch Circle. Sumter Fire & Rescue was already on scene upon arrival.
• Firefighters responded to Elm Avenue to a report of wire down. They found a cable line down and cleared it from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to Carver Street to help police get a car out of the woods. A wrecker was already on scene and in the process of moving the vehicle upon arrival.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on U.S. Highway 280 West. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Brookdale Drive. Burned food left in a pot on a stove activated it. There was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to a commercial fire alarm on East Forsyth Street. It was a false alarm.
• Firefighters responded to a power line down on Douglas Circle. They assisted in blocking off the road, and Georgia Power was notified.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at TCI Powder Coating LLC, 300 Martin Marietta Drive. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters stood by at an Americus-Sumter High School football game.
• Firefighters responded to Sharon Circle to a report of a TV smoking in a residence. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a power line down on Pineview Drive. The line had been brought down by a large tree limb falling on it. They assisted police with blocking the roadway and Georgia Power was notified.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Lee Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to person in distress on Starlight Circle where they checked the carbon monoxide alarm and found no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to a Elm Avenue where a semi truck and trailer had pulled down power lines. The truck also broke a power pole. The roads were blocked to other traffic until Georgia Power arrived.
• Firefighters responded to a dormitory on the Georgia Southwestern State University campus to remove someone trapped in an elevator. Upon arrival, the individual was already out, the elevator was disconnected, and maintenance was notified.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Jackson Street. It was activated when the alarm company was working on the system.
• Firefighters responded to a tree down on Washington Street. They removed it from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on North Hampton Street.
