AMERICUS — Mr. Glynn Mathis. age 87, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Graveside services will be held at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at Oak Grove cemetery. The Rev. John Walker will officiate.

Glynn Mathis was born in Americus, Ga., Oct. 30, 1930, the youngest of four children of Ed and Lois Mathis. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene M. Wellons, Lucille M. Monkus, and a brother James E. Mathis. He graduated from Americus High school in 1948. He attended Georgia Southwestern College. Glynn was a Korean War veteran. He served in the U.S. Air Force. After completing his tour of duty in the Air Force, he attended Georgia Southwestern College, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Georgia. He was inducted into the GSW Athletics Hall of Fame and has served on the board of firectors for the Georgia Southwestern College’s Alumni Association. Glynn had a career in public education for 33 years as a teacher, coach, and principal. He was also a charter member of the Marietta Golden Kiwanis Club.
