Schley County 4-H’er wins Grand Championship at Georgia State Fair
Blake Churchwell represented Schley County 4-H at the 2018 Georgia National Fair Livestock Show in Perry Oct. 4-14.
He showed his steer in the Livestock Show and did an excellent job, placing first and the winning the Grand Championship in the Commercial Steer Show.
His hard work and dedication to his steer, “Diesel,” was rewarded.
Blake is a senior at Schley County High School. Congratulations to Blake for a job well done with Diesel the steer.

Ellaville Rainbow Garden Club awards Yard of the Month
The Ellaville Rainbow Garden Club has selected the Yard of the Month for October.
This special honor goes to Jimmy and Shirley Storey. They live on Candy Cane Lane. You can always tell who has won the Yard of the Month by seeing the Rainbow Garden Club sign that is placed in the front yard of the winning home.
Congratulations go to the Storeys for a lovely yard.

Ellaville Methodist Women hold meeting
The Ellaville United Methodist Women held their monthly meeting recently in the church Social Hall.
To start the meeting, guest speaker Sandra McDaniel spoke on Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan’s Purse. This was a very interesting program involving getting things ready for children for Christmas.
After the program refreshments were served by the hostess, Mary Ellen McCorkle, who served pretzels, nuts, cake, coffee, soft drinks, and water.
The UMW hosts the Library Board Dinner Nov. 15 at the church. The organization will also host the Methodist Men on Nov. 12.
On Oct. 20, Mary Ellen McCorkle attended the South Georgia District Conference meeting in Warner Robins.
The next UMW meeting has been changed to Nov. 8, which will be the Pledge Service.
The UMW voted to give Donna Dillard $200 for the Church Shoe Box Ministry for Christmas.
There will be an officers’ training session in November.
Those attending, in addition to those previously mentioned, were Ann Gill, Judy Gattis, Marianne Phillips, and Nora Morrow.

Payton Dillard honored with bridal shower
On Oct. 21, the women of Ellaville United Methodist honored Payton Dillard with a lovely bridal shower.
The bride-elect wore a lovely brown dress and she was presented a lovely corsage for this special event.
The serving tables were covered with white linen tablecloths. The center piece was a fruit tray on a large silver tray with a large pineapple and baby’s breath. Other refreshments were placed on the table as well. The punch bowl centered the punch table.
All display tables were covered with white linen tablecloths where gifts were placed for others to see.
The women of the church prepared the delicious finger foods for this special occasion.
The Bride’s Book was placed at the door as guests. About 32 guests attended.
