The Southland Academy kindergarten classes recently completed a literature study of fables and fairy tales. The students’ favorite story was ‘The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf.’ The cross-curricular unit was comprised of the students reading the story, watching videos, then retelling the story in their own words, writing in their journals, and reading other versions of the story. The students enjoyed the STEM activity to conclude the study of fables and fairy tales. Using straws, sticks, and Lego bricks, the students were able to build houses just like the three little pigs. Shown are K5 students in Leigh Anne Saye’s class with the houses they made in conjunction with the study of fables and fairy tales.
