MOULTRIE — Ameris Bank collected a record number, 1,893,871 food items, during its ninth annual Helping Fight Hunger food drive initiative that took place throughout the month of October. More than 90 food banks throughout 101 communities in the Southeast are impacted by this food drive initiative.
This year, in addition to Ameris Bancorp’s annual $100,000, donation which is distributed amongst the receiving local food banks, Ameris Bancorp is donating an additional $50,000. This additional donation will be given directly to food banks in communities hardest hit by Hurricane Michael.
“We are both overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the collective efforts of our team members, customers, and partners that helped us collect more than 1.8 million food items for food banks within our footprint. This truly is a remarkable achievement that will benefit so many in need,” said Ameris Bank CEO Dennis Zember. “At Ameris, we are proud to give back to our communities in which we operate, and the combination of the donated food items and the monetary donation will help those in the continued fight against hunger.”
Ameris Bank has made a significant impact in the fight against hunger since the inception of its Helping Fight Hunger initiative in 2010, donating more than $800,000 and nearly 6.3 million food items to the communities it serves.
