LAS VEGAS — A group of Americus-Sumter High School automotive students recently competed in the “Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge,” a national engine building competition, held at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas.
The Americus-Sumter team, known as “Team Aeromotive,” was one of only 51 teams to qualify from more than 200 teams who attempted nationwide. ASHS finished 25th in the overall competition, earning each student on the team a $5,000 scholarship. Hot Rodders of Tomorrow and its college partners have provided more than $4.2 million in scholarship funds for students in 2018.
ASHS automotive instructor Fred Mohl traveled to Vegas with his students. He proudly reported upon returning, “The SEMA Show was a great experience for me and my students, most of whom have never had the opportunity to travel. The students did a phenomenal job at the competition, and their exposure to a network of automotive industry leaders will go far in furthering their careers and promoting our program
