Our opinion: Happy Thanksgiving to our community

As family and friends prepare to gather together for the annual feast, we realize there is much for which to be thankful here in our community.
Many groups and organizations are already at work to make Christmas merry for local children who are separated from their family or who will otherwise have nothing for Christmas.
Locals are preparing to feed the needy Thursday for Thanksgiving dinner, and will do it again for Christmas.
It warms the heart to give, and this is the season when giving should be foremost in our thoughts. There are so many who are needy — of food, shelter, medical care, even a friendly smile. Don’t forget them; they are part of our community, too.
As the community continues to recover from Hurricane Michael, again a spirit of community pride and unity prevails. Neighbors helping neighbors. Citizens taking pride in cleaning up their property.
As Thanksgiving approaches, don’t forget that it’s not all about food and fun. Don’t forget to thank the good Lord for all the blessings He heaps on this community every day of the year.
The staff of the Americus Times-Recorder is thankful for the community and for all our readers. That’s why every physical address within Sumter County will receive a free copy of this huge pre-Thanksgiving edition of your local hometown newspaper in your mailbox. We hope you will enjoy reading it and that it puts you into the holiday spirit.
