Tawanna T. Wright earns State Financial Management certification

AMERICUS — South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Accounting Specialist Tawanna T. Wright earned the prestigious State Primary Governmental Accounting Series Financial Management Certificate from the Carl Vinson institute of Government at the University of Georgia recently, announced SGTC President John Watford, Ed.D. She was recognized at a graduation ceremony at the Georgia Building Authority’s Empire room in Atlanta recently.
The State Financial Management Certificate Program consists of a series of accounting courses that reflect governmental accounting pronouncements. The courses are designed specifically to aid state accounting personnel in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to transactions and events that occur in a government setting.
The certificate program consists of three classes: Introductory Governmental Accounting I and II and Intermediate Governmental Accounting. Both introductory classes are designed for governmental accounting paraprofessionals and accountants. The intermediate class is for accountants and senior-level financial management personnel.
The State Financial Management Certificate Program has proven to be a great benefit to all state accounting personnel. The faculty is composed of highly competent people with years of practical governmental accounting and auditing experience. The training offered by the Carl Vinson Institute represents a tremendous value for state training dollars.
Wright joined SGTC as administrative assistant to the vice president of Administrative Services in September 2005. She was promoted to accounting specialist in June 2017. As the accounting specialist at SGTC, she is responsible for recording financial transactions accurately, analyzing and reconciling accounting records, and preparing standard accounting reports. She also processes accounts payables/accounts receivables and prepares payment requests/checks as well as perform routine clerical duties and review documentation, entries, and reports for accuracy and completeness.
She earned her associate of applied science degree in business and office technology at SGTC in 2007, and then continued her studies at Georgia Southwestern State University. She earned a bachelor of business administration – human resources management in 2011, and continued her education at Fort Valley State University for a master of education school counseling degree.
Wright has one son, Devontat’e Darv’ay Monts, who is currently serving in the United States Air Force and stationed at Dover Air Base in Delaware. He is a 2016 Honor Graduate of SGTC and worked with the Georgia State Patrol Post prior to enrolling in the military. She is the daughter of Joann and Robert Harrell of Cobb and Johnny and Carol Ball of Warner Robins. She is a member of Life Point Church under the leadership of Pastor Bud Womack.
